Morning Coffees

Mornings are getting lighter, and we're getting out earlier to find some adventurous coffee spots. A first coffee with fishing before the sun rises at Cape Kidnappers, and a second one amongst the vines at Clearview Winery. Nice!!

Wild Flowers

En-route to Wellington, we stopped at Masterton to visit a gardener who dries flowers in her shed. The fruit of this visit is a carload of around 40 dried floral varieties that are going to be suspended from the ceiling in the shop. Gaye and Francis have a Vintage Car and Clothes Museum just outside of Masterton. Gaye stopped drying flowers about a year ago, because there was no demand for them. She is the only source in the whole of New Zealand that I could find for dried flowers. What I bought from her was the last of her drying crop from her shed. If only she knew what a rare resource she is.

Wellington Trip

We just had a four day weekend, and drove across to the other side of the Island to Wellington through broody skies and the greenest hills. This is what Spring looks like here, and I couldn't help cooing over the lambs. Wellington was a quick city fix. We dined at the Matterhorn and had amazing food, wine and atmospheric sips of whisky. Visited the City Gallery and discovered the work of Ben Cauchi, and dropped into Taylor Boutique to check out my my new collection in their store.

Uppercase Magazine

I remember when I was in my 20's I wanted to open a wine, magazine and cake shop, because they were the things I loved the best. And then my love of things expanded and my knowledge of some things exceeded others, and so now I do know more about wool than wine or cake, but creative MAGAZINES I still fervently covet and collect, and I can spot a gem anywhere in the world even from the edge of the globe. Uppercase, "A Magazine For the Creative and Curious", I have in store , and they have written up a feature on Gather on their blog.

There's some delightful Spring projects at Gather to get you inspired. Ellen from Elmtree delivered some Handspun Art Yarns. These are really amazing. I would love to just keep them as sculpture in their own right.
We've knitted some butterflies, birds, bees, and beasties, which are hanging as a garland in the store.
Rowan Summer patterns and gorgeous yarn; cotton&linen, cotton&wool, mohair&silk.
Really fine Japanese linen, perfect for lace knitting.
